James Collings

Computer Science graduate, London UK. Embedded systems, C, Python.

I finished a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science at Aberystwyth University in June 2026 with a high 2:1. My major project was an embedded one: a Raspberry Pi Pico that puts a web control interface in front of professional RS232 CD players, so legacy broadcast equipment becomes something you can drive from a browser.

Outside coursework I ship small native applications that solve problems I actually hit. The two I am proudest of are MicGuard, a macOS menu bar utility that stops Bluetooth headsets hijacking your microphone, and my foobar2000 Discord component, written in C++ against the foobar2000 SDK. Both are real software with real users rather than exercises.

I am looking for junior or graduate roles in software engineering, systems, embedded development, testing or technical support.

Selected work

Wireless Web Controller for RS232 CD Players

My university major project. A Raspberry Pi Pico serves a responsive web interface and translates it into real time serial commands for Denon DN-C620 and DN-C680 CD players. Requirements, interface design, implementation, testing and documentation were all mine.

MicGuard

A macOS menu bar app that pins the system input to the microphone you chose, so connecting Bluetooth headphones cannot drag your audio into low quality HFP mode. My most polished shipped application.

Swift 6 Core Audio macOS

foobar2000 Discord Presence

A C++ component for foobar2000 that publishes the playing track to Discord: title, artist, a live progress bar, audio quality and album art. Written against the foobar2000 SDK.
